Two luxury hotels are waiting to open in South Korea’s top tourist destination Jeju Island that has seen a massive inflow of local travelers restricted from travelling overseas.

Lotte Tour Development Co. is set to open Grand Hyatt Jeju next month, the company said. The hotel sits on the 8th to 37th floors of the company’s Jeju Dream Tower, 38-story and 169-meter high twin skyscrapers commanding an area of 303,737 square meters. It will be the tallest buildings in the resort island, almost twice higher than Lotte City Hotel in Jeju.

It is also the largest Grand Hyatt hotel in Asia Pacific and the second largest one in the world with 1,600 rooms and suites, more than three times bigger than the current biggest Lotte Hotel in the island. It has a foreigner-only casino, 14 restaurants and bars, infinity pool and premium spas. The 3rd and 4th floors of Jeju Dream Tower will have fashion stores and global food restaurants.

The opening of the resort complex is part of Lotte Tour Chairman Kim Ki-hyung’s plan to start over its business in Jeju, a dream that has been chasing by the company over the past 40 years since it bought the Jeju site in September 1980. It moved its headquarters from central Seoul to Jeju in September.

Lotte Tour Development, founded in 1971, is not under Korea’s fifth largest conglomerate Lotte Group.

Grand Josun Jeju

Shinsegae Chosun Hotel has also confirmed that it will open Grand Josun Jeju on Jan. 8 next year in Seogwipo and is receiving pre-opening reservations. The company running various brands including foreign names such as Westin, Sheraton and Marriott chose to operate its own new brand Grand Josun in the island.

Grand Josun Jeju, renovated from Kensington Hotel Jeju, had added 50 suites to its original 221 rooms to meet the increasing demand from customers who want luxury experience at the upscale hotel. Hill Suite special package offers access to its all-day private lounge Gran J, rooftop pool Heavenly Pool and Heavenly Lounge.
