Lotte On’s e-commerce platform has seen a 30 percent increase in sales for August 2024 in its newly launched Japanese direct purchase section, which opened a month before. The rise in popularity comes as the yen strengthens and recent earthquakes dampen interest in traveling to Japan, with consumers opting to purchase affordable Japanese products directly from Korea instead.

The South Korean company said on Sunday that sales in its Japanese direct purchase section grew by more than 30 percent during the first two weeks of August 2024 compared to the same period last month. The most popular products during this time were the “Senka Perfect Whip” facial cleanser, which was in first place, with “Ichiran Tonkotsu Ramen” following behind. Other top sellers included “Ryukakusan Herbal Throat Candy Sticks” (3rd place) and “Echigo Funwari Meijin Injeolmi Snacks” (4th place).
