배달의민족 운영사 우아한형제들이 앱에서 영어, 중국어, 일본어를 지원한다. 외국어 사용자는 검색, 메뉴 선택, 결제, 배달 현황 확인 등 주문 과정을 해당 언어로 이용할 수 있다.
번역에는 LLM(대규모 언어모델) 기반 생성형 AI 기술을 적용했다. 다국어 지원은 고객 앱 화면에만 적용되며, 입점 업주와 라이더의 운영 방식은 기존과 동일하게 유지된다.
앱 언어 변경은 모바일 OS 환경설정에서 가능하다. 현재 음식 배달 주문 과정에 적용됐으며, 향후 장보기·쇼핑 등 다른 서비스 영역으로 확대를 검토 중이다. 채팅 상담 자동 번역 기능 도입도 검토하고 있다고 밝혔다.
배달의민족은 국내 배달 앱 중 해외 발행 신용카드, 위챗페이, 알리페이플러스 등 글로벌 결제 수단을 지원하고 있다. 회사에 따르면 2025년 12월 글로벌 결제 주문 건수는 전년 동월 대비 약 300% 증가했다.
백인범 우아한형제들 CPO는 "관광객뿐 아니라 국내에 머무는 외국어 사용자도 배달 서비스를 쉽게 이용하도록 지원하겠다"며 "더 많은 고객이 진입장벽 없이 배달 서비스를 즐길 수 있도록 여러 기능을 개선해 나가겠다"고 말했다.
Baedal Minjok Adds English, Chinese, and Japanese Language Support to App
Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok (Baemin), announced on February 4 that its app now supports English, Chinese, and Japanese. Users can access the ordering process—including search, menu selection, payment, and delivery tracking—in their preferred language.
The translation feature uses LLM (large language model)-based generative AI technology. The multilingual support applies only to the customer-facing app interface, while operations for restaurant partners and delivery riders remain unchanged.
Users can change the app language through their mobile OS settings. The feature currently covers the food delivery ordering process, with plans to expand to other services such as grocery shopping. The company is also considering introducing automatic translation for chat-based customer support.
Baemin is among the domestic delivery apps that support global payment methods, including international credit cards, WeChat Pay, and Alipay+. According to the company, global payment orders in December 2025 increased approximately 300% compared to the same month the previous year.
"We aim to make delivery services easily accessible not only for tourists but also for foreign language speakers residing in Korea," said Baek In-beom, CPO of Woowa Brothers. "We will continue to improve various features so that more customers can enjoy delivery services without barriers."
