Samsung Electronics Co. has installed digital signage with interactive touchscreen at 90 subway stations across Seoul, adding marketing efforts to lead the booming business-to-business digital display market.

The Korean tech giant said Wednesday it has supplied 4,218 units of its interactive digital signage to join the digitalization project for Seoul metropolitan subway map by Seoul Metro.

Digital signage is a display installed in public or commercial places, emerging as the next growth engine for display makers after TV, PC, and mobile phone. Currently, Samsung Electronics is claiming the market lead based on its technological prowess in next-generation displays.

Supplied displays have replaced the analogue maps for way-finding, timetables and district information near stations. Users are now able to interact with the digital signage installed to find the information they want to know by scrolling the screen with their fingers.

Super-size 85-inch UHD screens can be used for advertising also, which would immediately grab the attention from people using the public transportation, the company said.

Samsung Electronics for the project has improved the durability of its signage to make it operate for 24 hours a day and 365 days a year in a congested place with high levels of dust.
