Mayor Park Heong-joon of Busan to Visit Three European Cities to Promote Global Hub City InitiativeEngaging in Exchange and Cooperation with Genoa, Italy, and Barcelona and Madrid, SpainMayor Park Heong-joon of Busan will embark on a tour of Genoa in Italy, and Barcelona and Madrid in Spain, starting on the 19th, to strengthen the foundation for Busan's transformation into a global hub city.

This 5-night, 7-day tour aims to enhance Busan's city brand and promote sustainable development.

Mayor Park's key activities will include signing a sister city agreement with Genoa, adopting a joint declaration to strengthen the sister city relationship with Barcelona, signing a memorandum of understanding for joint cooperation with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and hosting an economic and investment cooperation forum in Madrid. Discussions on exchanges and cooperation with the Mayor of Madrid are also on the agenda.

Starting in Genoa on the 20th local time, Mayor Park will meet with Mayor Marco Bucci to discuss cooperation in various fields, including maritime affairs, ports, investment and trade, tourism, culture, arts, and sports. He will visit the Genoa Port Authority to discuss port cooperation and tour the cruise terminal facilities. This year marks the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Italy, and Genoa will become Busan’s first sister city in Italy.

Strengthening Exchanges in Barcelona
On the 21st, Mayor Park will meet with Mayor Jaume Collboni of Barcelona to sign a joint declaration to strengthen the sister city relationship. They will discuss new cooperation projects in digital innovation and cultural content. Additionally, the Busan Museum of Art will sign an MOU with Spanish cultural institutions to expand cultural and artistic exchanges.

Economic Cooperation in Madrid
On the 23rd, Mayor Park will sign a memorandum of understanding for joint cooperation with the World Tourism Organization and attend an economic and investment cooperation forum at the Madrid Chamber of Commerce. During the forum, he will seek various opportunities to accelerate economic growth between Busan and Madrid. On the 24th, he will meet with Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida of Madrid to discuss cultural and economic exchanges, building on the outcomes of the previous day's forum.

Vision for Busan as a Global Hub City
Mayor Park stated, “2024 marks the first year of realizing ‘Global Hub City Busan,’ leveraging Busan's enhanced innovation capabilities and urban competitiveness to establish its role as a central city in South Korea.” He added, “We expect meaningful results in sustainable development and the enhancement of Busan’s city brand through continuous and substantial exchanges and cooperation with global cities.”

Mayor Park's tour is expected to promote 'Global Hub City Busan' and boost Busan’s urban diplomacy activities through meetings with key figures in various fields, including the mayors of the three cities.

이번 순방은 5박 7일 일정으로, 부산의 도시브랜드를 제고하고 지속가능한 발전을 도모하는 것을 목표로 한다.

박 시장은 주요 일정으로 제노바와의 우호협력도시 협정 체결을 시작으로 바르셀로나와 자매도시 관계 강화 공동선언을 채택할 예정이다. 이어 세계관광기구(UNWTO)와의 공동협력 의향서를 체결하고, 마드리드에서는 경제·투자 협력 포럼을 개최한다.

마드리드시 시장과의 교류·협력 논의도 일정에 포함돼 있다.

제노바에서의 첫 발걸음으로, 현지시각 20일, 박 시장은 마르코 부찌 제노바시장과 만나 해양·항만, 투자통상, 관광, 문화, 예술, 스포츠 등 다양한 분야에서의 협력 방안을 논의한다.

제노바항만청을 방문해 항만협력을 논의하고 크루즈 터미널 시설을 둘러볼 예정이다. 올해는 한국-이탈리아 수교 140주년으로, 제노바는 부산의 첫 이탈리아 우호협력도시가 될 예정이다.

바르셀로나에서의 교류 강화21일, 박 시장은 자우마 콜보니 바르셀로나 시장과 만나 자매도시 관계 강화 공동선언문을 서명하고, 디지털 혁신, 예술·문화콘텐츠 등 신규 협력사업을 추진할 계획이다.

또한, 부산시립미술관과 스페인 문화예술기관 간 업무협약을 체결해 문화예술 교류를 확대할 예정이다.마드리드에서의 경제 협력23일, 박 시장은 세계관광기구와 공동협력 의향서를 체결하고, 마드리드상공회의소에서 경제·투자 협력 포럼에 참석한다.

포럼에서 부산과 마드리드 간의 경제적 성장을 가속화할 다양한 기회를 모색할 예정이다. 24일에는 마드리드 시장 호세 루이스 마르티네즈-알메이다와 만나 경제협력 포럼의 성과를 바탕으로 문화·경제 교류를 논의할 계획이다.

글로벌 허브도시 부산의 비전박형준 시장은 “2024년은 부산의 높아진 혁신 역량과 도시경쟁력을 바탕으로 대한민국 중추도시로서의 역할을 위한 '글로벌 허브도시 부산'을 실현하는 원년이다”라며, “세계적 도시들과의 지속적인 교류협력을 통해 부산의 도시브랜드를 제고하고 지속가능한 발전에 유의미한 결과를 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

박 시장의 이번 순방은 3개 도시 시장뿐만 아니라 다양한 분야의 핵심 인물들과의 만남을 통해 '글로벌 허브도시 부산'을 알리고, 부산의 도시 외교 활동에 탄력을 줄 것으로 기대하고 있다.
