South Korean platform giant Kakao Corp. is reinstating its work-from-home program.

According to industry sources on Thursday, the company and its labor union reached a tentative wage and collective bargaining agreement that includes the revival of once-a-week telecommuting.

The agreement was approved through a vote by union members on Monday with approximately 1,600 members, or 78 percent of eligible voters, participating. The agreement passed with 62 percent approval, according to the sources.

The agreement includes various union demands, such as the introduction of telecommuting once a week, a 200,000 won ($142.80) increase in tax-free meal allowances, and a formal provision for one day of leave for personal events.

A “Co-Work” policy (previously known as Core Time) is also included in the agreement to encourage concentrated work hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The final signing of the agreement is expected to take place within the month and Kakao is expected to focus on improving its business operations after this resolution of labor-management disputes.
