The first-ever international discussion on 6G mobile network standards will take place in South Korea’s Incheon from Monday through Friday.

The country’s Ministry of Science and ICT announced Sunday that the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), a global organization developing 6G standards, will hold a 6G workshop & technical session in Incheon starting Monday.

Established by seven global standardization bodies, 3GPP is responsible for defining next-generation mobile communication standards. Korea played a leading role in getting the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to approve the ‘6G Vision,’ outlining target services and key performance metrics for 6G. This led to the country hosting the conference, where intense competition over standardization is expected.
