SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics will release "Galaxy Note 10", the company's latest phablet-sized smartphone, in some 70 countries including South Korea, the United States and Britain, targeting global consumers who prefer powerful phones with a large display.

The South Korean electronics giant said in a statement on Thursday that Galaxy Note 10 will hit the shelves on August 23. The new phone will be available in 130 countries including India and countries in Southeast Asia by early September.

Samsung has strategically differentiated its iconic phablet phone lineup into two models, a 6.3-inch standard model and a 6.8-inch model with a larger display.

According to a 2017 survey, conducted by Statistica, 70 percent of U.S. consumers preferred phones with larger displays. The market research company predicted that smartphones with displays larger than 5.5. inches will take up more than half of the smartphone market by 2022. As of July this year, Samsung is leading the global phablet market with 31.13 percent, followed by Apple with 22.01 percent.

Galaxy Note 10 houses a powerful octa-core chipset with a strong artificial intelligence (AI) capability and an intelligent camera which allows users to scan small objects such as toys and watches to create three-dimensional (3D) rendered images.

The phablet phone also comes with "S Pen", Samsung's stylus pen, with upgraded features such as a built-in gyroscope that would allow users to control the phone by waving it around in the air. Users can also control it by clicking S Pen's button.

The standard Note 10 version with 512-gigabyte internal storage will carry a price tag of 1,248,500 won ($1,031), and the larger one will be priced at 1,496,000 won.
