Each week brings new revelations of cyber hacks and digital attacks. Unfortunately, no industry appears immune. From health care networks to air traffic control systems, our nation regularly defends its citizens’ sensitive information.

However, as cyberattacks grow more sophisticated, it is vital our nation’s cybersecurity infrastructure modernizes to maintain our security.

Cyberattacks are growing across the spectrum. For example, while our health care system scrambles to address the raging COVID-19 pandemic, Russian hackers are ramping up attacks on American hospitals, clinics and medical complexes.

In an already vulnerable situation, frontline workers are now facing data-hostage scenarios that threaten to take their facilities offline if they refuse to give multimillion-dollar random payments.

In another instance, a team of hackers successfully attempted to sabotage a vital flight system for a U.S. military fighter jet. At a time when businesses and American families are trying to recover from the grips of COVID-19, letting our technology infrastructure go to the wayside only puts our country at further risk.

Additionally, with teleworking becoming more increasingly popular across industries, as Americans wait for a vaccine, more businesses are adopting cloud migration for their day-to-day operations.

According to a study conducted by LogicMonitor, 66% of IT professionals note their biggest concern with migrating to the cloud is security. With phishing attempts and malware attacks nearly doubling for teleworkers, their concern is more than valid. Less physical control over information increases vulnerability to foreign interference.

사이버 해킹과 디지털 공격이 매주 새롭게 공개된다. 불행히도 영향을 받지 않는 산업은 없는 듯이 보인다. 의료서비스에서부터 항공 교통 관제 체제에 이르기까지 우리나라는 자국 시민들의 민감한 정보를 규칙적으로 방어한다.

그러나 사이버 공격이 더욱 정교해짐에 따라 우리나라의 국가안보를 유지하기 위한 사이버안보 인프라의 현대화가 중요하다.

사이버공격은 모든 분야로 확대되고 있다. 예를 들어, 우리의 의료 서비스 체제가 코로나19의 맹렬한 대유행에 대처하기 위해서 서두르고 있는 가운데 러시아 해커들이 미국의 병원, 진료소, 의료산업체에 대한 공격을 증가시키고 있다.

이미 취약한 상황 속에서 일선의 작업자들은 제멋대로 요구하는 수백만 달러의 돈을 지불하기를 거절할 경우 그들의 시설을 인터넷 연결에서 단절시키겠다고 위협하는 데이터 인질 시나리오에 지금 직면해 있다.

또 다른 사례에서는, 한 팀의 해커들이 미군의 전투 제트기가 이용하는 중요한 비행 체제를 방해하려고 시도하여 성공했다. 기업들과 미국의 가정들이 코로나19로 인한 곤경에서 벗어나기 위해 애쓰고 있는 시점에 우리의 기술 인프라를 방치하는 것은 우리나라에 추가로 위험부담을 가중시키게 된다.

그에 덧붙여, 모든 산업에 걸쳐서 원거리 근무가 더욱 인기를 끌게 되고 미국인들이 백신을 고대하고 있는 가운데 더 많은 기업들이 자기네 일상업무 운영을 위해서 클라우드 이전을 채택하고 있다.

로직모니터가 실시한 연구에 따르면, IT 전문가의 66%가 클라우드 이전에 따른 최대의 우려가 보안이라고 지적한다. 원거리 근무자들에 대한 피싱사기 시도와 악성코드 공격이 근 2배로 늘어남에 따라 전문가들의 우려는 지극히 타당하다. 정보에 대한 물리적 방제의 축소는 외부 간섭에 대한 취약성을 증가시키게 된다.
