국내 첫 코로나19 공식 치료제로 확정된 '렘데시비르'가 1일부터 국내에 공급됐다.

Remdesivir, an antiviral medication proven effective in treating new coronavirus patients, is now available in South Korea.

질병관리본부는 폐렴 등 중증 환자를 대상으로 렘데시비르를 우선 투약할 것이라고 밝혔다. 질본은 국내 수입업체인 길리어드사이언스코리아와 국내 도입 협의를 통해 지난달 29일 의약품 무상공급 계약을 체결했다.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said on Wednesday that it would start distributing remdesivir to COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms after Gilead Sciences Korea, the local importer of remdesivir developed by U.S. biotech company Gilead Sciences Inc., supplied the drug under a contract with KCDC to donate some remdesivir to the country.

렘데시비르는 국내에 허가된 의약품은 아니지만 식품의약품안전처는 렘데시비르에 대한 해외 의약품 특례수입을 확정했다. 다만 당국은 렘데시비르 도입물량 등에 대해서는 길리어드사와 계약 조건에 따라 공개하지 않기로 했다.

The drug is not officially approved in Korea, but the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety gave a special go-ahead of its prescription under an exceptional procedure. But both parties did not disclose the deal’s details such as donation volume under confidentiality agreements.

정부는 렘데시비르 무상 공급물량을 우선 확보하고 이후에는 길리어드사이언스코리아와 가격 협상을 통해 구매에 나설 방침이다.

KCDC said that after it distributes the entire volume of the antiviral drug currently available in the country, it will make additional purchases after determining the price of the drug through negotiations with Gilead Sciences.

국내에서 렘데시비르를 투약받을 수 있는 환자는 폐렴이 있으면서도 산소 치료가 필요한 중증 코로나19 환자로 제한된다. 구체적으로는 흉부엑스선이나 컴퓨터단층촬영(CT)에서 폐렴 소견이 확인된 중증 코로나19 환자로 산소포화도가 94% 이하여야 한다. 특히 이들 가운데 산소 치료를 병행하며 증상 발생 후 10일이 경과하지 않은 환자만 렘데시비르를 투약받게 된다.

The first batch of remdesivir to be shipped to Korea this month will be administered to patients with severe COVID-19 symptoms who receive a medical opinion of pneumonia based on chest X-ray or computerized tomography, show 94 percent or lower oxygen saturation level, need oxygen therapy, and show symptoms for no more than 10 days. Patients meeting all four criteria will be administered six bottles of remdesivir for five days and for an additional five-day period if needed.
