South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. has won a 220 billion won ($185.8 million) waste-to-energy plant project in Poland, helping to expand its footprint in European energy market.

Doosan Heavy I&C said Wednesday it has clinched a 220 billion won deal to build a waste-to-energy plant in Olsztyn, 200 kilometers away from the capital city of Warsaw, Poland, in consortium with its German subsidiary Doosan Lentjes.

The plant is to provide 12 megawatts of electricity and heat for the regional society from 300 tons of waste. Doosan Heavy I&C and Doosan Lentjes aim to complete the construction by 2023 on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis.

Doosan Heavy I&C expects the latest contract will help it pave the way for additional orders in waste-to-energy fields in Europe amid the ascent of eco-friendly solutions.

Doosan Lentjes specializes in engineering, design and construction with proprietary waste-to-energy and sewage sludge solutions like circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler technologies and air quality control systems. It was acquired by the Korean power plant equipment maker in 2011.

Doosan Heavy I&C shares on Thursday fell 0.88 percent to close at 9,010 won in Seoul.
