South Korea’s retail giants are rolling out large-scale discount events to stimulate domestic consumption following President Lee Jae-myung’s inauguration earlier this week. With Memorial Day falling during an extended holiday period, the industry is hopeful that consumer sentiment will rebound.
Lotte Group announced Wednesday that it will hold its annual shopping festival, the “Lotte Red Festival,” from June 5th to 22nd, 2025, featuring up to 1 million won ($735) in rebate events. More than 20 Lotte affiliates and over 30 brands are participating, with Lotte Mart and Lotte Super to offer watermelons and premium “Two Plus” Korean beef at half price. A whole watermelon will be available for 9,990 won on June 6th, while Canadian pork belly and shoulder will be sold for 762 won per 100 grams on June 7th.
Emart will host its own large-scale sale, “Great Festival,” from June 5th to 8th, offering discounts of up to 50 percent on beef, imported pork belly and shoulder, U.S. cherries, Gangwon tomatoes, live abalone, and fresh eel. Major appliances from Samsung and LG - including refrigerators, air conditioners, and TVs - will also be eligible for additional discounts of up to 1.35 million won.
Homeplus will run its “Meat MEGA Festa” from June 5th to 11th, offering deep discounts on premium fresh meat, while all Nonghyup Korean beef and U.S. beef products will be discounted by up to 50 percent from June 5th to 6th.
