South Korean mobile carrier LG Uplus Corp. announced Thursday that it has completed the technology verification of the next-generation software (SW) platform for 5G mobile communication in collaboration with telecommunication equipment manufacturer Ericsson-LG.

LG Uplus confirmed its capability to provide network services, authentication information, and location data necessary for 5G mobile communication services through an international standard application programming interface (API).

LG Uplus demonstrated the use of the API-based software platform in various applications, including public disaster control, remote-driving vehicles, and services related to virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).

LG Uplus also expressed its commitment to building an ecosystem that enables diverse stakeholders, including small and medium-sized enterprises, to leverage 5G mobile communication network services.

The company said it will continue its research to deliver new value-added services to customers.
